Twin Cities on the Border
The twin cities of Tornio and Haparanda, on the Finnish-Swedish border, form a growth centre for new industries in the North Calotte. During the recent years several new businesses have come to the area. Many more are i progress. Among the largest of them is of course IKEA, 
that will start its business here in November 2006.
Together with the neighbouring municipalities the area forms a population basis of 100 000 people. From the radius of 150 kilometres from HaraparandaTornio lives apx. 500 000 people.
