Cultural activities

The twin cities of Haparanda and Tornio have a versatile cultural life to offer. Swedish, Finnish and the Tornio valley culture meet here. Traditions from these cultures have been preserved and from them a new modern cultural mixture has devolved. A key issue is co-operation between the towns and their cultural work.

Every year several different cultural happenings take place in the area. One of the most famous is the Jazz and Blues festival in July.

The Aine art gallery in Tornio, just a walk away from Haparanda, offers art exhibitions throughout the year. The Library in Haparanda also arranges art exhibitions continuously.

The library also has a large archive of pictures taken by a famous local photograph, Mia Green during the World War I. The older Tornio valley culture can be seen in the museum of Tornio valley, just near the Aine art gallery.

Information of the activities and exhibitions can be obtained from The Tourist information desk in Tornio.
